MAKUENI, Kenya, Sep 27 – Five government officials-including two police officers have been charged for taking bribes in Makueni.

Three of them work at the Makueni Births and Deaths office who were arrested by Ethics and Anti Corruption (EACC) detectives last week, while taking bribes at a bar where they were found signing certificates.

Makueni Registrar Turbman Lutsilili Mburu and two clerks Maxwell Muema and Shadrack Wambua were charged for receiving a Sh4,600 cash.

They all denied the charges and released on Sh20, 000 each.

The Deputy OCS Salama Police station Inspector John Makumi Gatiri and a junior police officer was also charged in a Makueni Court for receiving a 15,000 bribe from a public service vehicle in Makueni.

Inspector Gatiri denied the charges. He was released on cash bail of Sh30,000 or Sh100,000 bond.
