NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 10 – Police have arrested a 38-year old man in Malaba in an ongoing probe into the theft of a vehicle belonging to the wife of politician Peter Kenneth.

The suspect from Nyeri was arrested with the vehicle which was stolen in Nairobi’s Kyuna suburb at the weekend, according to Busia County Police Commander Halima Abdi.

Halima said the vehicle, a Land Rover Freeelander whose plates had been replaced with a Ugandan number is being held at the Malaba Police Station waiting for officers from Nairobi, who are following up the matter.

She said they have beefed up security at the border besides working closely with the Ugandan authorities.

Kenneth’s wife, Ann Wanjiru, was carjacked on Saturday night while driving into their home in Kiuna by armed thugs who posed as guards at the gate.

Wanjiru was not harmed during the robbery.

According to police, the thugs had arrived earlier at the home and took the security guards on duty hostage.

The thugs stripped the guards and donned their uniform.
