Autopsy report on lawyer Kimani, two others expected Tuesday

On Monday, hundreds of protestors led by the Kenya National Human Rights Commission condemned the killings while calling for justice to all the victims of extra-judicial killings.

Katiba Institute Executive Director Prof Yash Pal Ghai said: “The protests were meant to express our anger against innocent killing of Kenyans.”

He urged the Government to ensure justice is delivered to all the victims of torture in the country.

“Police are there to protect Kenyans and not to kill them,” he asserted. “It is sad that we’re here today because of what has been happening in the country has almost become a norm.”

He said that the day will be used to remember all victims of extra-judicial killings in the country.

According to Houghton Irungu from the Society for International Development, 500 similar cases remain unresolved over the last three years.

He said in most cases, police officers were found culpable. “We want an assurance from the Inspector General of Police that these cases will stop.”
