NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 9 – The Nairobi County Government wants the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to pay Sh250,000 for holding an unauthorised rally at Uhuru Park on Monday this week.

In a letter directed to the CORD Secretariat, County Secretary Robert Ayisi indicated that the coalition held a meeting at the venue without being cleared by City Hall.

Ayisi has now directed that the necessary payment should be made before the end of the day Thursday.

“Authority for use of Uhuru Park grounds should be subject to settlement of requisite fee to the Nairobi City County Government. It has come to my attention that CORD held a rally on the same spot on Monday 6th June 2016 without clearance from the county,” he stated.

“I would appreciate if you would kindly make the necessary arrangements to settle the outstanding bill of sh250,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand only) by Thursday 9th June 2016.”

Just before the Madaraka Day Celebrations earlier this month, there had been controversy over the use of Uhuru Park with CORD seeking to hold a parallel political rally while a local church also wanted to hold a crusade there.

CORD was later given the go ahead to use the grounds.
