NAIROBI, Kenya, May 24 – Police say they have recovered a gun believed to have been used to kill controversial businessman Jacob Juma.

A statement from the Inspector General’s office indicates that ballistic examination of two empty cartridges recovered from the scene “show that they were from an AK-47 rifle recovered during recent encounters with criminals.”

It also pointed out that the analysis of phone records is complete and valuable data has been extracted from them.

The statement further indicated that the detectives have so far recorded statements from 28 people, among them his widow Miriam.

“So far, 28 statements have been recorded from various persons some of who are the immediate family members including the wife who has recorded her statement. She confirmed that she had in her possession the firearm that belonged to her husband which has been surrendered for safe keeping,” it stated.

According to police, others who recorded statements include the owner of the breakdown vehicle used to tow Juma’s car to the Karen Police Station and the officers at the station.

They said that the woman who was with Juma on that fateful day was also questioned and her side of the account taken.

“One of the girlfriends of the deceased is a lawyer at a well known city firm. The deceased sent her Sh30,000 on the fateful day. She was to meet the deceased in the evening at Rose Apartments but he had switched off his phone and instead met another lady.”

That lady works for a courier firm and he sent her Sh60,000 to buy a mobile phone.

Also questioned was a house-help at the Rose Apartments.
