A man is still a man, even when he is dead – Juma’s son

CORD leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula who spoke at the requiem mass urged the police to accelerate the investigation and apprehend Juma’s killers.

“Jacob acted with sincerity. He had noble and benevolent ideas. He loved his country. He cherished fairness. It is for these, I believe, that he had to die.”

“His murder must remind us of the words of Martin Luther King Jr. who said thus: We must be concerned not merely about who murdered…but about the system, the way of life, the philosophy which produced the murderers,” Odinga said.

Odinga continued to sensationally claim that the elite police flying squad unit killed Juma and that nothing positive is expected to come out of the ongoing probe.

He instead urges the Government to invite the US domestic intelligence and security service, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to probe the matter.

Amani National Congress (ANC) coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi condemned the killing, which he linked to Juma’s stern stand against graft in the country.

“Lack of confidence in the investigative agencies even by the facility calls for a Select Committee of Parliament modelled on the JM Kariuki one,” he said.

“The committee will have powers to summon anyone and ensure there is no conspiracy to hide the truth as it seems the order today. Clearly, the agencies seem afraid to confront those Juma accused of plotting to kill him and instead have turned their frustration on those Juma merely confided in.”

The team investigating the murder of the businessman Jacob Juma said Wednesday it had made remarkable progress after finding two cartridges from an AK47 believed to have been used in the gruesome murder.

“The team has made very good progress and they found two cartridges from Ak47 which is a weapon of choice for criminals,” Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Ndegwa Muhoro told Capital FM News, terming the new development as “helpful because then we start analyzing them to establish if the gun used has been recorded as having been used to commit a crime elsewhere. It is a vital lead in getting those involved.”

In a bid to unravel the mystery behind the killing of the controversial businessman, Muhoro said he has assigned more detectives to probe the killing which, according to opposition leaders, was politically motivated.

On Friday, his body will be flown to Kakamega for a public viewing at the historic Masinde Muliro Gardens at 10am and later on in Bungoma for a similar exercise at Posta Grounds.

The body will then be driven to the Juma’s family home in Mungore village, Khasoko area of Bumula Constituency ahead of burial on Saturday.
Juma was shot dead while driving to his Karen home in Nairobi on May 6. Various theories have been advanced—including a claim that he may have been shot dead elsewhere and his body dumped at the scene inside his vehicle from the analysis of bullets fired into the Mercedes Benz said to have been bullet proof.
