Kibaki family pays glowing tribute to Lucy, the imposing matriarch

“Mama Lucy Kibaki was different. She was different. She spoke her mind freely and honestly. She was never hostage to what people wanted her to be. She was herself,” Ruto said.

Lucy was also appreciated for her extensive work of charity in helping orphans and the less fortunate.

“She unlike many important people thrived without letting her in-born, yet hardly flaunted empathy get blunted by the all too common lure of fame and fortune. In the course of her life, she has provoked men and women, in their numbers, to reflect upon the place of personal choices, attitudes and worldviews in the pursuit of recognition of destiny,” Judy stated.

Nairobi Archbishop John Cardinal Njue in his homily centred on preaching unity and humility especially for the needy people in the society.

Having been a staunch Catholic, Lucy Kibaki’s mass was uniquely celebrated by a group of bishops who included the Pope’s Representative (Nuncio) Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo, Kitui Bishop Antony Muheria and retired Bishop Philip Sulumeti.

The programme was adorned with photos of a young a bubbly couple in their early days.
