NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 – Controversial businessman Jacob Juma was shot dead by gunmen while driving to his Karen home in Nairobi on Thursday night.

Police say he was blocked and shot several times, but nothing was stolen from him, according to a report filed in the Occurrence Book at the Karen Police Station.

Juma was known for courting controversy on various issues on his Twitter handle when commenting on topical issues of the day.

He was the director and proprietor of Cortec Mining Kenya Ltd, Kenya, with a profile on his Twitter account showing the company was affiliated to Cortec SA, Cortec Uk, Stirling, UK, Pacific Wildcat Resources Corp., Canada, USA, Rio Tinto, Australia, First Western, UK.

In what appears to have been a premonition of his death, Juma tweeted on March 25 that “Freedom is expensive? Death is a must for everybody. I will NOT fear death and stay in comfort zone as majority of Kenyans suffer anymore.”

Juma’s killing was among trending topics on Twitter Friday morning, with Kenyans urging authorities to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those responsible.

“Whoever killed Jacob Juma will never be happy. It’s a curse to take the sacred life of another human being,” lawyer Dr Ekuru Aukot tweeted.

Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdulahi tweeted “I can confirm that Jacob juma was killed last night with 10 bullets to his body…what a tragedy”

Human Rights activist Al Amin Kimathi said: “Jacob Juma had become the biggest anti-corruption agency in the country.”
