Local leaders called for a university, saying it is the only county without a university.

“The county government should set aside land or identify an institute that will be upgraded. I will send the Cabinet Secretary of Education to plan,” he said.

Three dams will be built in Nyandarua and could be funded by the French government, he said.

On agriculture, the President said it is a devolved function and the county government should be at the forefront in planning and implementation.

“But if the funds are not enough or there are other roadblocks, then you can turn to the national government,” he said.

The President said this when responding to local leaders who had asked for a pyrethrum factory. He said the government will give the county 30 milk coolers.

He challenged county government to take serious all devolved functions even as they request help from the national government.

Governor Waithaka Mwangi with all county elected leaders accompanied the President on the tour to inspect development projects.

The visit started with a leaders’ meeting at the Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology. Then President then commissioned the local Medical Training Centre. He then inspected progress at the Ol Kalou Level Hospital.

He later inspected Engineer Level 4 Hospital in Kinangop Constituency, and addressed residents of Miharati in Kipipiri Constituency.
