NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26 – Police on Tuesday morning lobbed teargas to disperse a group of ODM party members in Kisumu who were demonstrating against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) following the botched protest in Nairobi Monday.
The group which was led by Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma and local MCAs was marching to the commission’s office when the demonstration was dispersed.
A similar protest was held in Nairobi Monday when CORD leaders including Raila Odinga were tear-gassed while trying to force their way into IEBC’s Anniversary Towers offices.
According to Kisumu Central Constituency ODM Chairman Seth Kanga IEBC Commissioners must be forced out of office and a new team put in place to be able to conduct a free and fair election in 2017.
Addressing a press conference in Kisumu, Kanga says tear-gassing CORD Principals led by Odinga has irked party supporters and is encouraging them to be on the streets.
He stated that the Constitution has been violated since it allows picketing and peaceful demonstration and wondered why the police broke up the gathering.
