NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 15 – Police on Friday morning shot dead three suspected gangsters in Nairobi’s Westlands area.
The shootings occurred outside a bank they planned to rob.
A pistol and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain men.
Gigiri Police Chief Vitalis Otieno says police acted on a tip off from members of the public and started trailing them from the ABC Place on Waiyaki way.
A shootout ensued after police tried to stop their speeding vehicle.
“They fired back to our officers,” he said.
The thugs attempted to escape but in the process rammed into a lorry, bringing to a halt the chase with the police.
The flying squad officers killed one of the thugs at the middle of the highway, as he attempted to alight and probably escape from their vehicle.
Police are pursuing one of their accomplices who managed to escape but Otieno says, “he was captured by the CCTV cameras. We will get him.”
