NAIROBI, Kenya, March 20 – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua says he will not be intimidated by leaders who have openly come out to oppose him with the aim of scuttling his development projects.

Mutua stated that during his tenure, he has managed to achieve tangible development in the roads construction, health, security, water, agriculture among other sectors.

“I want to tell them that the journey from the bondage of Egypt to the promised land of Canaan has begun. Those opposing my philosophy of accelerated development will be swept away by the raging waters of prosperity,” he said.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with professionals drawn from Machakos, Makueni and Kitui Counties, he pointed out that his political rivals had nothing to show to the electorate even after holding key positions for many years.

“Let them continue making noise and hurling insults at me but I will continue doing God’s work which is that of serving the people of Machakos and Ukambani at large,” he stated.

Former military boss General (rtd) Jeremiah Kianga said there is need to correct the perpetual mismatch of politics and the needs of the people.

“It is morally fraudulent for our political class to continually engage in toxic politics while our people continue to wallow in abject poverty,” he stated.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Film Classification Board Ezekiel Mutua who read the resolutions dubbed the “Machakos Accord” said the professionals also pledged to establish an Ukambani Bank to provide affordable credit to locals to help them start businesses and grow the region’s economy.

He alleged that top professionals from the region had received calls from a prominent politician from Ukambani urging them to boycott the function.

“We ignored the calls since we must be on the right side of history that is supporting development and progressive politics,” he said.

During the meeting, committees were formed to spearhead a unity and economic prosperity agenda for the region with Mutua being overwhelmingly chosen as the Patron of the new Ukambani Professionals Caucus.
