NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 18 – A 63 year old man was on Friday morning injured by a lion that was sighted on Mombasa Road near City Cabanas.

According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the lion was agitated by the hooting of motorists and as a result became aggressive.

KWS Spokesman Paul Udoto told Capital FM News that the man was rushed to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for first aid before he was taken to the Mater Hospital.

“There was a 63 year old man who was attacked and injured by the lion. When motorists hooted, it became agitated and as a result attacked the man. KWS personnel however conducted first aid on him and he has been taken to a local hospital,” he said, “He is out of danger.”.

He assured that the KWS team dispatched there was in total control of the situation.

“It has been driven deeper into the park,” he stated.

He encouraged the public to report such incidents using the KWS toll free numbers, 0800597000/0800221556.

A video showing the lion strolling on the roadside near City Cabanas went viral on social media, with the public accusing the KWS of failing to act fast. The reports came a day after residents of Syokimau claimed that dozens of sheep had been mauled by a lion in the area, but KWS did not immediately comment on the matter.
