Kenya’s Military Spokesman Col David Obonyo said the terrorists were confronted when they laid an ambush on the security forces in Afmadhow, Lower Juba region where two KDF soldiers were also killed.
“Following the incident, 21 Al Shabaab militants were killed,” he said, “regrettably, KDF suffered two fatalities”.
Obonyo said 19 AK 47 rifles and 3 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) were recovered during the confrontation that also left two soldiers wounded.
“During the fierce engagement, the overpowered Al Shabaab militants resulted to the use of improvised Explosive Devices (IED), damaging one vehicle,” Obonyo said in a statement.
AMISOM forces have lately intensified the war on Al Shabaab in Somalia after the January attack on Kenyan forces that left many soldiers dead in El Adde.
