NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 28 – President Uhuru Kenyatta Sunday morning travelled to Djibouti to attend the Heads of State Summit of Troop Contributing Countries to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The plane carrying the President and his entourage departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 8am.

The AMISOM summit will discuss and adopt proposals to revamp the mission’s operations in Somalia to make it more effective in fighting Al Shabaab.

AMISOM – created on January 19, 2007 by the African Union’s Peace and Security Council – is a regional peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations.

The AMISOM troop contributing countries are Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda, Burundi and Ethiopia.
