She said cancer has claimed and continues to claim many lives and must be tackled.
“Through this awareness initiative, we have been able to speak to people on the importance of cancer screening and I believe many lives have been saved,” she said.
She also asked Machakos residents to take part in some form of physical fitness to keep healthy.
“As we live, we must all live healthy lives, we must eat well, engage in some form of exercise.”
She emphasised the importance of screening and testing saying at the that will helps to deal with the disease early in time.
“Let’s go for our pap smear tests and mammogram tests without fail. For the Men, please do go for your prostate tests as required.”
She also urged the residents to spread the word about the disease in an effort to contain it.
She spoke during the’ World Cancer Day’ in Kangundo sub-county, in Machakos.
She has further called on national and county governments to set aside funds for research, awareness and treatment of the disease as well increasing funding for county governments, saying that will help reduce congestion at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
She added that being diagnosed with the disease is not the end of life. Saying there’s need to fight the stigma associated with the disease.
This year’s cancer awareness theme is “‘We Can, I can.”
