Tales of hope, better future after fresh efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS

“HIV is a terrible problem in this country. PEPFAR targets areas with the highest burden of the disease. It is a challenge for everyone to get to zero new infections, zero deaths and no discrimination.”

According to UNAIDS (2013) report, Kenya is ranked as the 4th country in the world with the largest HIV prevalence with 1.6 million people infected.

Through interventions, new infections have reduced drastically from 10.5 percent in 1996 to 6 percent in 2003.

However, children especially girls living in poor urban areas HIV infections rates are still high.

During the World AIDS Day on Tuesday, the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) is expected to release a report on the disease.
