NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 8 – The Strathmore University Council has appointed an 11-member team to carry out an independent probe into last week’s bungled terror drill.

The team has been tasked to determine nine key issues among them how the drill was prepared and who was involved in the planning at the university level and externally.

“The Strathmore University Council this morning appointed an independent committee of respected professionals to investigate the circumstances leading to the decision to execute the drill of 30th November 2015 and make recommendations within 7 days thereof,” reads a statement from the university.

The team has also been asked to recommend what actions should be taken against any person found culpable based on the report.

The University Vice Chancellor Prof John Odhiambo is among officials questioned by police over the security drill that left tens of students injured and one staff member dead.

They will also “determine how and by whom the decision was made as to the content of the event and design of the simulation.”

The VC earlier admitted that he was not aware of the drill saying he used his office escape route innocently thinking they were under a terror attack.

“I am speaking very honestly. My office is in the other side of campus. So, when all this started, I was not aware and I had to use my escape route,” he stated on December 2.

“We had been trained on what to do in case these guys (terrorist) shows up …after a while I got to know that it was a drill.”
