Governor Mutua reads malice in Senate petition by MCA

He urged the Senate to visit the county to get a real picture of the situation on the ground adding that although he had a huge development agenda for the county, budgetary constraints limited his aspirations.

He also lauded the advice given by various Senators over how to run affairs in the county also noting that the Upper House had a role to play in over sighting counties and ensuring the success of devolution.

“Nobody is perfect, we need to be corrected,” he admitted.

He also downplayed the fact that many governors including him, had failed to heed to invites to appear before Senate committees saying there was a general fear that Senators were plotting the impeachment of the Governors and hence the ‘arms length’ approach to them.

“Many Governors feel like they are under attack, most feel that all the impeachments so far have been sponsored by Senators,” he added.

Mutua will be required to appear before the same committee chaired by Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o in a fortnight to respond to another petition by a group of Machakos residents.

Senators present at the sitting included Peter Mositet (Kajiado), Wilfred Machage (Kuria), Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni), Ben Njoroge (Nominated), Agnes Zani (Nominated) and Zipporah Kittony (Nominated).
