NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 19 – The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday arrested two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers after they allegedly demanded for a bribe of Sh50, 000.

Peter Osebe, KRA Manager Naivasha Station and David Okemwa an officer at the same station allegedly demanded for the bribe from Lakeside Tourist Lodge in Naivasha last Friday.

They alleged that the hotel was not using an ETR machine and threatened to press charges of tax evasion.

“They demanded for a benefit of Sh50, 000 so as not to charge him with tax evasion offences,” EACC indicated on a press release on Monday.

The two were arrested after they fell into the trap of receiving the treated money marked by EACC officers.

“Our officers travelled to Naivasha for the operation and today arrested the above officers for soliciting and receiving our treated money of Sh50, 000.”

The suspects were later released on a cash bail of Sh100, 000 each and will take plea on October 28 at Nakuru Anti-Corruption Court.

It was only last Thursday, that EACC arrested three police officers including the Deputy base commander at Kabete Police Station for soliciting bribes.

EACC arrested the three during an operation along Waiyaki way while taking bribes from motorists.

“Surveillance had been conducted the previous day and the officers were caught on camera receiving bribes from motorists so as not to charge them with traffic offenses,” EACC explained.

The three will take plea at the Thika Anti Corruption Court on Friday.

EACC is meanwhile urging people to continue reporting public officers involved in corruption.
