NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 9 – The war of words between President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies and the Opposition over the alleged coaching of witnesses to fix William Ruto at The Hague escalated Friday with the two accusing each other of seeking to keep the matter ‘live’ to gain political mileage ahead of the 2017 polls.

Hours after CORD leader Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Oginga said he is ready and willing to defend Ruto because he is innocent of crimes against humanity charges, Jubilee Alliance Party Vice-Chairman and UK Centre Director David Murathe dismissed claims that Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria worked there.

He said the Opposition doesn’t have basic facts about UK Centre and went on to clarify that they were based at Red Cross House and not Baden Powell House.

“I wish to reiterate that Moses Kuria has never been an assistant for HE the President or an employee of the UK Centre. The ODM brigade believes that they can get traction by dragging in the name of the President into their murky scheme of seeking to divide the Jubilee Alliance.”

“We don’t wish to be drawn into this nonsense of idlers and busy bodies who have nothing to offer Kenya as we’re busy delivering on the Jubilee manifesto pledges and rolling out the Jubilee flagship projects for the benefit of uplifting the lives and welfare of all Kenyans

Murathe said the raging debate on the DP’s alleged ‘fixers’ was dishonest, manifestly misleading and mischievous.”

In a statement, the JAP official said: “The issue at hand is not who fixed who in the ICC, but whether they would like the Deputy President’s case to collapse just as the one against the President collapsed for lack of credible witnesses. ODM should tell Kenyans whether they want the Deputy President freed or they want to complicate his case so that they can use it for their 2017 political campaigns.”

ODM had earlier through its Deputy Treasury Olga Karani fired a salvo when she said the president was fully aware of and funded the procuring of witnesses against his deputy.

“The UK Centre employed Moses Kuria and funded the procuring and coaching of the witnesses. David Murathe is one of Uhuru Kenyatta’s closest confidants. Uhuru cannot therefore claim to be ignorant of what David Murathe and Moses Kuria were doing,” said the ODM official.
