UN meet to adopt 17 Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 16 focuses on enhancing peace and justice through establishment of effective institutions that can administer accountability and inclusivity.

At the bottom of the SDGs is goal number 17 which emphasises on the means of implementing and renewing global partnerships to support sustainable development encapsulated in the SDGs.

To come up with the 17 SDGs, Bekele-Thomas recalled the hard work that started way back in 2012.

The guiding principle was inclusivity of views form NGOs, civil society and other players in the process of identifying the real needs of people.

“We had consultations at all levels, together with the government and the leadership of the government throughout the country, trying to see what people want to have as goals established at the universal level,” she explained.

“This is the fruit of every single citizen of this world. We are really for once considering what people want.”

Kenya which has been a co-chair of the Open Working Group on SDGs will be represented by a high level delegation which will be led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
