UN gives Kenya thumbs up on development objectives

UN Country Team Economic Advisor, Wilmot Reeves identified dearth of funding as an impediment that hampered implementation of MDG projects; “during the articulation of MDGs, the funding mechanism was not defined.”

In his view, lack of generating timely and quality data was also a setback that has been addressed in the soon to be adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Kenya also incorporated the MDGs in its governance plans in 2004 after their launch in 2000, this, Mailu said was a struggle to catch up and move at par with the UN.

Mailu said other challenges experienced during the implementation of the MDGs included lack of ownership by the public and the government which presumed the goals were the UN’s business.
