NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 10 – ‘Doctor’ Mugo wa Wairimu, the man accused of allegedly sedating and raping women in his clinic has been arrested in Limuru Town.

The man, whose real name is James Mugo Ndichu, was arrested by Administration Police officers while having tea at a hotel known as Gitungo.

Limuru AP commandant Stephen Ndegwa said they will be handing him over to CID detectives who have been looking for him.

“We received information from members of the public and we moved quickly and arrested him,” Ndegwa said. “He is now in our custody and we will be handing him over to the CID.”

The man later posted on his Facebook page saying “Unbowed. Safely in the hands of Tigoni Police.”

Police have already recorded statements from four witnesses over allegations facing the man whose activities were exposed by Citizen TV.

Head of the Serious Crimes Unit at the CID headquarters John Kariuki said: “We are urging more people to come out and volunteer information that can help in the case,” Kariuki said.

Police launched a manhunt for the ‘doctor’ following public outcry sparked by a Citizen TV expose that showed a man believed to be Mugo allegedly sedating and raping a woman in one of his clinics.

His Facebook account has been active, often assuring the public that he is safe and will present himself to the police at the “opportune time.”

His two clinics that were closed on Monday remain guarded by police after angry mobs threatened to set them ablaze.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist’s Board has already dissociated itself with Mugo whom it said operates with no legal documents “because he is not a registered doctor.”
