NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14 Fifteen Nairobi City County officers engaged in corruption were Friday morning arrested following collaboration between the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission and the Nairobi County Integrity Department.
According to EACC chief executive Halakhe Waqo some Sh128,000 was seized from the group.
“EACC officers arrested a total of 15 Nairobi City County attendants and upon search recovered Sh128, 417,” he said in a statement issued to newsrooms.
He clarified that some of the money belonged to the commission and had been used in the sting operation.
According to Waqo, the sting operation was conducted between 11am and 11.30am Friday in Industrial area, Westlands, Nairobi West, Ngara area, Kirinyaga road and River road.
The EACC boss added that the commission was processing the suspects and compiling their case files for onward transmission to the Director of Public Prosecutions for consent and prosecution.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero who praised the EACC for assisting the county in fighting the vice announced the immediate suspension of the 15 officers stating that if found guilty, they will be interdicted.
He further thanked Nairobi residents who continually report extortion cases saying his office would not rest until the county is ridded of corruption.
“We assure Nairobians that the Governor’s office is fully committed in the fight against corruption and we will continue to encourage our employees to focus on quality service delivery that is not compromised because it’s a right of the citizens,” he said.
