CID probes jobs scam targeting thousands

One of the youths who was to start working on Monday, Christopher Mwangi, expressed his disappointment after he was promised to get a hefty salary but the phone number of the contact person was off.

“We were to be called and be informed of our respective working places…I’m yet to receive any call,” a visibly disappointed Mwangi told Capital FM News.

One of the directors representing Meru County and heading a delegation of 150 people to the stadium was also not sure whether the thousands of youths who flocked the stadium will get any jobs.

“We are not sure but we are happy we have an appointment letter. We are hopeful,” the director said after prolonged laughter.

Mary, a mother of two was also among the expectant crowd but not even a letter from the NGO coordination board would make her change her mind.

“They just want to eradicate poverty. You people from media are not good,” she retorted.

Other than paying the Sh350 registration fee, the job seekers also incurred transportation and accommodation expenses.

Majority, mostly from the coastal region spent the night at the stadium, hoping their lives will change.

The organisation phone numbers listed in the letters were no longer in service when Capital FM News tried to reach them for a comment.
