14-year old boy recounts torture, forced circumcision

“The two culprits who burnt him have now gone underground. But they are well known because they come from the same neighbourhood. They cannot hide forever,” Nzioka explained.

He says a manhunt has been launched to arrest all the culprits involved in the inhuman act.

Tom hails from Naathu, a small village remotely tucked in Igembe North Constituency.

The boy speaks deep Kimeru and can hardly express himself in Swahili.

He had no chances of accessing justice leave alone knowing if justice at all exists.

His family is modest and the perpetrators took advantage of the low economic status to torture a son of the poor who could do nothing to protect himself or report them.

Though he is still terrified, he timidly expresses concerns over his security since his attackers had warned him against implicating them.

It was by sheer luck that good Samaritans took up his matter.

On Tuesday, a group of people joined by security officers in the area visited the scene of crime where young Tom had been abandoned for the dead.

It is a tiny square room made up of mud walls with less than five iron sheets providing a roof.

On the earthen floor, is a traditional mat made up of dry palm leaves.

That was where Tom slept for four days after the forced circumcision.

Nick Nyagah, the Principal of Nkubu High School has vowed that the community will not relent until all the culprits involved in torturing the poor boy face justice.

The community has also launched a drive to raise funds to support Tom’s education.
