In his address to the nation Sunday, President Obama cautioned Kenyan youths against being weighed down by old ways.
“I want to say particularly to the young people that Kenya is on the move… Africa is on the move you are poised to play a bigger role in this world as the shadows of the past are replaced by the light that you offer in an increasingly interconnected world and in the light of this new day we learn to see ourselves in one another, we have to see that we are connected. Our fates are bond to one another, because we are all part of one trip the human tribe,” he said, adding that Kenyans need to exert personal responsibility to make it happen.

“You don’t have to struggle under a colonial power, you don’t have to look overseas to realize your dream, yes you can realize you dream right here right now. We have not inherited this land from our fore-fathers, rather we have borrowed it from our children. So now it’s the time for us to do the hard work and live to that inheritance and I am here to tell you that the United States of America will be you partner every step of the way,” the US President.
President Obama added; “When it comes to the people of Kenya, particularly the youth, I believe there is no limit to what you can achieve.”
The US President said youths should be empowered and announced that America is partnering with Kenya by investing in the youth.
He noted Kenya’s booming economy as one of those in a booming economy and asked that the country’s economic gains be shared more broadly with all Kenyans.
President Obama cited various youth groups which he said had played a key part in ensuring national cohesion, enhancing entrepreneurial skill and breaking down traditional practices against girls.
He became the first sitting US president to visit Kenya with his arrival last week, years after he was first elected in 2008 and after many Kenyans had grown restless of waiting for the man they consider a local son to return.
President Obama previously came to Kenya in 2006 when he was a US Senator.
