NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 2 – There will be no more manual visa applications at airports for foreigners entering Kenya following new regulations by the Directorate of Immigration and Registration of Persons.

Previously, foreigners coming to Kenya were given visas upon arrival at airports but under the new rules, the visa application process will take about seven days and is subject to the rules of the Immigration Department.

“No more manual visa applications from 1st July, 2015, all applications will be made via www.ecitizen.go.ke,” a message on the Immigration website indicated.

Travellers will be required to have a visa prior to boarding a flight to enter Kenyan soil.

However, to allow implementation of the new rule there is grace period for manual visa application which expires at the end of next month.

All visitors will be required to fill for their e-visas on time and wait for approval by the immigration department.

The measure comes at a time when Kenya is grappling with terrorism.
