Historic night as students interact with their mentor, Uhuru Kenyatta

The Alliance Boys High School student was not the only youth at State House last Thursday night to display the promise of greatness, courage and intelligence.

He was part of a group of 47 students who have participated in the Pupils Reward Scheme, initiated by President Kenyatta to inspire the youth on leadership and responsibility, and who have been residing at State House for a week.

The program, which kicked off this month, selects students from all counties based on criteria of academic performance, talent and innovation.

The selected students are given first-hand exposure to how the highest level of government works. They also get to interact with the President, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and senior government officials.

Brian was speaking in a hall, located less than 500 meters from the President’s office, which is part of premises constructed specifically for the mentorship program.

President Kenyatta allowed all the students to speak in his presence on their experience even though it was not part of the initial plan for all of them to speak.

The hours seemed to fly by as the young boys and girls rose one after the other to share their experience and thoughts with captivating articulation.

Lavenda Ochieng from Alliance Girls said it was an experience of a lifetime that has changed how she views life.

“We have got exposure to this country’s wonderful Government and it has shown us that where you come from does not matter. We will be the next great leaders of this country,” she said.
