Mwiti was arraigned before Resident Magistrate Edah Agade following his arrest late Wednesday

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 – Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti was on Thursday charged with rape, assault and intimidation after spending a night in police custody.

Mwiti was arraigned before Resident Magistrate Edah Agade following his arrest on Wednesday evening before he was locked up at Kileleshwa Police station.

He is alleged to have committed the offences to a female journalist in Westlands two weeks ago.

A doctor accused of forcefully performing a HIV test on the victim before the alleged rape is facing charges of aiding and abetting Mwiti to commit the offence of rape.

He is also charged of neglect.

“On the night of 21st day of March, 2015, at Tana Club along Woodvale Groove Westlands within Nairobi County, while knowing that Gideon Mwiti was designing to commit a felony namely rape, failed to use all reasonable means to prevent the commission or completion of the said felony,” the charge sheet against the doctor David Muchiri Mwangi read.

The woman who the court has prohibited any platform from identifying her is married to Mwiti’s friend who introduced her to him for business before she accused the MP of raping her.

The doctor David Muchiri Mwangi was last week charged for operating without a license.

The case will be mentioned on April 8 when the doctor will also be expected in court according to the prosecution.
Mwiti, a father of six, has denied the charges facing him.

Through his lawyer John Khaminwa, he pledged to appear in court whenever requested to do so while seeking for an application for a cash bail.
