Kamau, Nduva disown 25-year Duty Free shops deal

Members led by Aldai MP Cornelius Serem sought to find out why there was so much zeal in evicting Pattni noting the determination by the former MD.

“We were evicting Pattni because we needed the spaces. There was a lot of congestion in the departure areas… I had the passion to give passengers their areas,” he added.

The businessman had reportedly been promised an arbitration fee of Sh4.2 billion if he left the premises but after the government failed to honour its pledge and Pattni moved to court to claim an extra Sh7 billion in damages accrued during the eviction.

The committee also learnt that the lawyer representing the Kenya Airports Authority Fred Ngatia was due to be paid his legal fees amounting to Sh300 million, a figure the committee chairperson Adan Keynan thought was exaggerated.

“Did KAA get value for money?” asked Keynan.

“I do not want to comment about the money, but I don’t think we should pay someone that amount; no,” said the former MD.

The committee is yet to summon Pattni, but has heard from various other witnesses and is due to present its report within a month.

“We want to be fair, but right now we are confused. We need to move from known to unknown,” said Keynan.
