NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 22 —President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived back home Sunday from Windhoek, Namibia, where he attended the inauguration ceremony of Dr Hage Geingob as the country’s third President.

The inauguration of Dr Geingob coincided with the 25th anniversary of Namibia’s independence.

Kenya and Namibia have a special relationship as Kenyan forces played a major role in UN peacekeeping operations in the country.

The two countries have had close cooperation in the medical sector with many Kenyan medical experts having had working stints in Namibia. A Kenyan serves as the Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Namibia, while the University of Nairobi trains many Namibian medical students.

The visit of President Kenyatta was also aimed at improving trade ties between the two countries.

During his visit, the President opened “Kenya House” in Windhoek, Namibia, which houses the Kenya High Commission.

The plane carrying the President and the First Lady touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 2:00 pm.

On arrival the President and the First Lady were warmly received by senior government officials led by Cabinet Secretary for East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism, Phylis Kandie and Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lt Gen Samson Mwathethe.
