Uhuru challenges Kidero to sign up Sh38bn medical equipment project

The Head of State said Nairobi is one the biggest cities in Africa adding it was a shame for people to put up buildings and other huge investments in the metropolis and have no title deeds for their parcels of land.

He said lack of the land documents was part of the reason for shambolic and unsafe buildings in Nairobi because investors lacked the confidence to put up proper buildings. But once they acquire their titles, they will be able to invest in proper buildings with confidence, said the President.

On the controversial Kamae land being claimed by some squatters, President Kenyatta said Kenyatta university has a legal right to it to construct the proposed children hospital that will benefit all children including those from the squatter families.

President Kenyatta admitted the squatters had lived on the controversial land for a long time and the government will get a solution over the matter. He said there is need for a solution that is good for everybody.

President Kenyatta later flagged off Lands Ministry vehicles loaded with a total of 750,000 new digitalized title deeds headed to various parts of the country including including the larger Meru, the larger Nyanza region, Rift Valley, Lower Eastern and Rift Valley among other areas.

CS Ngilu said her ministry will hit the one million mark title deeds next month and had so far processed 136,388 titles for Nyanza, 120,103 for Meru and Tharaka Nithi, 51,526 for Rift Valley , 180,095 titles for Lower Eastern and 140,202 documents for vihiga and Kakamega.

Governor Kidero said his worst fears in Nairobi are the land thieves and not the street families and pick-pockets.
