NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 6 – Motorists were stranded for several hours on the Mai Mahiu- Narok road Friday after herdsmen blocked the road in protest after a lorry knocked several cows dead.
Some of the stranded travellers told Capital FM News that the traffic jam stretched several kilometres on both sides as over 500 youths demanded compensation.
“We are paying for the sins we did not commit… some of us are opting to go back to Nairobi,” he said.
The lorry which was headed towards Mai Mahiu knocked down the cows near Suswa, leaving 21 of them dead.
The protesting youths were demanding to be paid up to Sh2 million shillings as compensation for their herd.
They barred police officers from removing the truck or the carcasses until the matter was resolved.
