Safaricom network outage hits parts of Nairobi

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 11 – Safaricom experienced a major outage of its services in parts of Nairobi on Wednesday morning, leaving subscribers with no access to calls, SMS and data services.

The company’s Corporate Affairs Director Nzioka Waita indicated that the outage has affected sections of Nairobi since 4.25 am.

It mainly affected customers on 2G, 3G and WiMax services in Westlands, Karen, Lang’ata, CBD and Kinoo areas.

“Safaricom engineers and technicians are busy addressing the problem, with a view to restoring all affected services within the shortest possible time. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this outage,” he stated.

Customers were unable to make or receive calls, use SMS , mobile data and could not also reach Safaricom’s Contact Centre for assistance.

By 8.30am, services had started resuming in some of the affected areas.
