NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 – President Uhuru Kenyatta will make a three-day State visit to the People`s Democratic Republic of Algeria from February 24, 2015.

The visit comes after Kenya recently opened a resident mission in Algiers and posted Ambassador Moi Lemoshira to promote diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Previously, Kenya’s embassy in Cairo was responsible for Algeria.

Relations between Kenya and Algeria, which cover a wide sphere of bilateral, continental and global issues, have been growing from strength to strength. President Kenyatta’s State visit is a step towards boosting ties between the two countries.

While in Algiers, President Kenyatta will hold talks with his host, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. He will also meet the Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa.

Under joint pacts, Kenya and Algeria have agreed to develop economic, technological and political areas as well as channels of consolidating the two countries’ relations.

The two countries have forged partnership to push for Africa’s agenda including continental integration at the international level.

President Kenyatta’s high level visit will boost relations on strategic areas including trade and investment; education, science and technology; government to government and people to people interaction through exchange of visits.

Algeria has a wide experience in oil and gas exploration, the knowledge and technology that Kenya wants to tap. Kenya also has huge oil deposits to be exploited in a cost-effective way for the benefit of citizens.
