SRC maintains hardline stance on teachers’ pay demands

Laikipia KUPPET Treasurer Peter Gaithi sized it up as, “another ploy to derail our efforts to secure better terms of service.”

The challenges faced in the devolution of health, he continued to argue, was proof that some public services were better left on the national stage.

“Before we even talk about devolution,” Kisumu KUPPET Chairman Zablon Awange weighed in on Monday, “we’ll think about removing out teachers from areas like Mandera, North Eastern and even Wajir where Duale is coming from; where there’s insecurity so that they can hire their own people,” he threatened.

Duale had argued that devolving education would be a remedy to the national crippling of learning when teachers go on strike as their terms of service would be negotiated based on the unique challenges faced at the county level.
