New course for top cops in ongoing reforms

“They stop motorists on flimsy grounds and without regard to the law and the oath of office, proceed without the slightest compunction to exhort money in broad daylight in the full view of passersby,” a visibly enraged Arachi said. “The warning is this, very soon we will catch up with you… this must stop.”

British High Commissioner to Kenya Christian Turner assured the police service of his government’s support in the ongoing police reforms but urged Kenyans to support the President in his calls to end corruption.

“I would like to applaud the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta for calling Kenyans to help him fight corruption in 2015. Corruption destroys trust which is essential with the communities; it undermines democracy and human rights and thrives terrorism and other threats to our security,” he stated.

He called on stakeholders to debate the recently adopted security laws soberly to ensure they help fight insecurity but does not hamper Kenyans’ human rights.

“It is our view that trust, accountability and openness will enhance rather than undermine a tough response to terrorism,” he said.

In the police service, the focus of on the ongoing reforms mainly lies in accountability, oversight, protection of human rights, gender mainstreaming and fighting corruption.
