Teachers’ unions lodge pay proposal with court

The teachers from Mandera, Wajir and Garissa counties through their secretary John Nyongesa gave the TSC an ultimatum to give them transfers or sack them.

“We are here for two things, either redeployment letters of sacking letters and we will keep on camping here until we feel and it is evident that there is security… if the government can give three or four months of partial deployment, when the security is guaranteed we would be willing to go back, but other than that it is funny the government does not even understand what we have been undergoing in Mandera,” said Nyongesa, a teacher in Mandera.

The teachers dismissed the statements by TSC Chairman Gabriel Lengoiboni that security would be beefed up saying the police officers could not assure them of their security because they also were targets.

The teachers concerns are drawn from last year’s Mandera massacre where 64 people were killed in two separate incidents among them teachers who were travelling up country for the Christmas holidays.
