Sang incited Kalenjins against Kikuyus, says ICC witness

The witness further told the court that he saw two lorries along Ziwa Road ferrying youths.
He said one of the lorries had about 300 youths armed with machetes and arrows and had its number plate and owners address sealed.

P0800 further told the court that there was a fundraising event held at Sirikwa Market place.

The witness who had told the court that he was at a café at the time prompted interjection by Ruto’s lawyer Karim Khan who wanted to know why Garcia was asking the witness who he saw at the fundraising at Sirikwa yet he was at a café in a different location.

The witness said he saw former Mt Elgon MP Fred Kapondi and Jackson Kibor sitting together at the fundraiser event which had a Mr Isaac Maiyo as the Master of Ceremony.

The witness said speakers urged Kalenjins to be prepared as Kikuyus had ‘stolen’ their votes and they ‘would no longer be on the Kalenjin soil again’.

The witness told the court that Kapondi was imprisoned during nomination time for making inciting remarks.

From time to time Khan protested why Garcia was asking leading questions to the witness.

The witness said Kibor said he would make financial contributions to buy ‘things’ for the youths.

“He was saying the Kikuyus should be removed from the Rift Valley, this is the time we have to use,” the witness alleged.

The witness told the court that he assumed by buying ‘things’ meant that he would buy weapons for the youths.

The witness said during the fundraising event, Ruto’s contribution of Sh200,000 was announced by Kibor. Kapondi, Kibor and others also made contributions.

Meanwhile, Ruto was expected back in The Hague on Wednesday morning after he was allowed to attend meetings in Kenya on Monday and Tuesday.

Ruto has been requested to be present during the entire testimony of witness P0800 who the prosecution deems as key in its case.
