NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 17 – The Orange Democratic Movement has resolved to issue a direct nomination to the party’s contender for the Homa Bay senatorial by-election.

The decision follows failure by the seven aspirants to reach a consensus on who would view after Monday’s botched nomination.

“The (National Elections) Board will immediately institute mechanisms by which it will use to determine the party candidate. The board will thereafter issue the certificate to the party candidate on or before December 19, 2014,” ODM said in a statement signed by elections board chairperson Judith Pareno.

The board held a day-long sitting at the party headquarters on Tuesday where it met the aspirants for the party ticket in the February 2, 2015 by-election.

“The candidates were then directed to hold a separate session on their own to reach a consensus on the party candidacy and report the outcome of their deliberations to the National Elections Board by 9pm last night. The consensus was not conclusive”

The party has appealed to the people of Homa Bay and general supporters to remain calm “as the matter is being handled amicably.”
