NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 15 – Controversy shrouds the death of a 24 year-old man who was admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital last Saturday for a dialysis procedure but was later found dead nearly a kilometre from the hospital.

According to family members, the man was too weak to move and could not have walked a long distance let alone getting out of the hospital without anyone noticing anything strange.

His sister, Faith Weke, indicated that the hospital should explain what occurred so that they can gain closure.

“The doctors said that he disappeared. How can that be? We need to know what happened and we are not doing it just for ourselves… we are doing it for the innocent who do not know their rights and they do not know how to speak it out. The hospital should not hide this kind of thing because many will die,” she said.

The man’s nephew, Daniel Weke, pointed out that his uncle was found without any clothing except a blanket which was used to cover his torso.

“No one can walk outside the Kenyatta National Hospital or even the room itself and no one notices. Weke was very sick as he could not even walk. So these people have been trying to hide a lot of information from us,” he stated.

They further want the police to investigate the incident and unravel the mystery.

“So when we went back, we found that the body had dirt on his back. So we need to find out especially from those at the City Mortuary, who really did this and why did it happen like this because we live in a society where there needs to be accountability.”

Attempts to talk to the Kenyatta National Hospital administration failed to bear fruit as all the senior officials were said to be engaged.
