NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 21 – US police have caught up with a Kenyan marathoner who outran them on Wednesday evening on being confronted with accusations of sexual impropriety.

According to the New York Daily News, 31-year-old Eric Kipkemei Chirchir who was at work at a golf centre, took to his heels on coming face to face with the New Jersey police.

“He’s fast,” Detective Sgt. Jon Misskerg is quoted as saying to NJ.com.

Police later caught up with him eight kilometres away; in his six year old daughter’s bedroom closet.

“He ran all the way home,” Capt. James Sepp is again quoted as saying to NorthJersey.com.

Chirchir is accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old girl in the women’s locker room of the golf centre where he worked.

She reportedly ran out of the locker room and relayed the incident to one of Chirchir’s co-workers who then called the police.

Apart from jail time for the suspected sexual offence and for trying to run from the police, Chirchir also faces deportation for violating US immigration laws.
