One of the governor’s bodyguard was injured in the explosion.
Police Spokeswoman Gatiria Mboroki says detectives had ascertained that the blast was caused by an Improvised Explosive Devise.
She told Capital FM News that police officers had already secured the scene as they try to find those behind the attack.
“The incident occurred near the bus stage as the Governor’s convoy was passing,” Mboroki said, “officers have established that it was caused by an IED.”
“An investigation has been opened to establish who were behind this attack,” she said.
Such incidents are widespread in Northern Kenya towns bordering Somalia, where Al Shabaab militants often launch attacks targeted at security forces.
