NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – Former Moyale Member of Parliament Guyo Halake was shot dead by unknown assailants at his home in Moyale Town on Wednesday night.

According to police, the attackers escaped without stealing anything from the deceased’s home which is about four kilometres from Moyale Town.

Kenya Police spokeswoman Zipporah Mboroki who spoke to Capital FM News said the former MP was attacked after attending evening prayers at a nearby mosque.

“He was on his phone when two to three gunmen attacked him…they left without stealing anything,” she said.

Halake was a member of the local peace committee that has been pushing for peace among local clans following persistent clashes in the area.

“Police are already pursuing the attackers,” she added saying the motive of the killing was yet to be known.

The former MP was a member of the Francis Ole Kaparo Peace Commission and Borana Council of Elders.

Meanwhile, 57 Ethiopians were on Wednesday night arrested at a house in Kahawa Wendani area in Nairobi, days after they had arrived.

The Ethiopians are said to be in the country illegally and did not have travelling documents. They said they had been brought there by an agent and were headed for South Africa according to police.

They were all taken to the Kasarani Police Station where they were questioned and were expected in court on Wednesday.

This comes a few days after police arrested 15 illegal aliens in Murang’a County.

The 15 aliens were in a saloon car that was involved in an accident when they were arrested.
