The Galleria Shopping Mall management said the man went over a flower bed before colliding with the other car, causing panic.
“A lot of smoke occasioned by the ill man’s acceleration on his stationary car created confusion which made the armed police on the opposite entrance discharge their weapons three times,” the management stated.
The man is currently admitted to the Nairobi Hospital.
“We are not under terrorist attack. No one is injured or hurt. Official communication will continue,” said the mall’s management.
The incident came a day after the commemoration of the first anniversary of the Westgate terror attack that left 67 dead and over 200 wounded.
Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo on Saturday announced that police were on high alert following fears of a terror attack during the Westgate anniversary.
The police chief told a news conference that they he had deployed more police officers to patrol strategic areas, particularly in Nairobi, Mombasa and the border points.
