How businessman made ‘killing’ in Lamu land deal

“Our question is why this was subject to this audit which we were informed was to do with lands acquired for speculation near the ports and along the LAPSSET corridor. The reason we raise this is it goes to the ultimate motive of the enquiry which we are challenging,” she said.

Calyon had been preceded by the legal representative of Brick Investment Wangui Kimani who said her clients had been mixed up with Brick Investments in the public notice that invited them to appear before the NLC.

“Get it clear that Brick Investments Limited is the registered owner of parcel number 29113 and 29110; both parcels. In view of that, I would like to say that my clients have suffered a lot of heart ache, their business partners have abandoned them, they have suffered a lot of lost business, they have been inconvenienced, their time has been wasted and I would like to request the commission to declare that the doctrine of act and investigate is a reckless doctrine. And whoever participated in that, acted recklessly.

Secondly, I would pray that the Commission requests for a public apology; the same way my clients were in the papers for allegedly taking land through illegal and fraudulent means, the same channel should clear my clients,” Kimani conveyed.

The hearings end on August 28.
