NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 10 – A guard was left with serious injuries during an attempted break-in at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party headquarters on Sunday night.

ODM Director for Memberships Rosemary Kariuki told a media briefing that the security guard was attacked by four assailants with crude weapons as he was responding to commotion near the main office.

“The gang of four armed with crude weapons entered the compound manned by two security personnel from a private firm by climbing the wall facing Chania Avenue. They attacked the guard who was at the main office and immobilised him by tying him using ropes and a belt,” she told a news conference at the party headquarters popularly known as Orange House, on Menelik Road.

“His colleague who was patrolling the compound at the time of attack heard the commotion from the main office and on checking what was wrong he was attacked by the men who carried crude weapons and ran for his dear life around the compound. He collapsed after being hit several times and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he is fighting for his dear life,” Kariuki added.

Party officials ascertained that nothing was stolen during the 3.40am incident as the guard who had been immobilised manage to break free and called for help, forcing the gang to flee.

Kariuki confirmed that the incident had been reported to the police and the party was waiting for conclusive investigations into the incident.
