NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 2 – Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku will summon John Mututho this week “after the NACADA chairman was seen to overstep his mandate,” according to sources.

Officials at the ministry have told Capital FM News that Lenku is “unhappy with Mututho because he wants to run NACADA like his house.”

Mututho has been calling for the sacking of NACADA Chief Executive officer William Okedi for alleged misappropriation of Sh400 million. Okedi denies the allegation.

“The minister is not happy at all, he is summoning him tomorrow or Tuesday,” a top official at the Interior Ministry told us, adding “The Principal Secretary will be sending Mututho a letter today or tomorrow (Monday) morning. ”

Another official at PS Mutea Iringo’s office said “it is true Mututho will be summoned. The PS will send him a letter under instructions of the CS.”

Lenku when reached for comment confirmed he is “unhappy with the way Mututho is running affairs at NACADA.”

“I will be summoning him over the same,” he told us on telephone, on arrival from a week-long official trip to Hungary.

Although not offering more details, Lenku said “Mututho cannot be left to continue operating that way. He wants to be the Chairman, CEO, clerk and everything at NACADA. ”

While Mututho insist that Okedi is responsible for the alleged misuse of funds, some of the board members do not support him and have publicly supported the NACADA CEO.

While others – including Mututho insist Okedi should step aside to pave way for an investigation, some say the probe can be carried out while he is in office.

On Friday, the board members clashed publicly after a daylong meeting which had been called to seal Okedi’s fate.

Capital FM News has reliably established that it is not the first time Lenku is summoning Mututho for a dress down.

In December, he summoned the NACADA chairman after he threatened individual and corporate businesses dealing in alcoholic drinks, with his public statements – most of which were not supported by any law.
